Spain will face Portugal at the Estadio Benito Villamarín for the opening match of Group 2 League A UEFA Nations League 2022/23, Friday (03/06/2022) at 12:15 midnight Indian time.

Spain and Portugal are the seeded teams in Group 2 of League A. The reason is, that they are joined together with the Czech Republic and Switzerland, whose level is still below theirs.

In the previous edition of the UEFA Nations League, Spain successfully advanced to the final round. But unfortunately, La Furia Roja's hopes to become champions foundered after being defeated by France with a score of 1-2.

On the other hand, Portugal's steps in the previous edition of the UEFA Nations League only reached the group stage. Portugal, which is in Group 3 of League A along with France, Croatia, and Sweden, was only able to finish in second place with 13 points. Seleccao das Quinas lost to compete with France who came out as group winners.

Ahead of this match, Spain and Portugal themselves are both in very good shape.

Spain in their last match was able to pick a landslide victory 5-0 over Iceland in the test match through goals from Alvaro Morata (2), Jeremy Pino, and Pablo Sarabia (2). It was Spain's winning streak in the last 4 matches (W4 D0 L0).

Meanwhile, Portugal has always won in its last 2 matches, namely in the 2022 World Cup Qualification play-off match. They won 3-1 over Turkey in the semifinals, then a 2-0 win over North Macedonia in the final which saw them qualify for the 2022 World Cup finals which will take place in Qatar in November 2022.

Spain and Portugal last met in a test match in 2021 which took place at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano. In that match, the two teams played out a goalless draw, aka 0-0.
