Southampton Vs Chelsea preview on Wednesday. 31 August 2022, 12:15 midnight IST, which will take place at St.Mary's Stadium.

Chelsea sits sixth behind the weekend's win over Leicester City, and 14th-placed Southampton could move ahead of their next opponents with success at St.Mary's.

After being forced to sit in the stands due to a one-match touchline ban, Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel was given a different perspective when assessing his players at the weekend.

Conor Gallagher's unnecessary red card will infuriate him, but a 10-man response will provide reassurance about the character of the squad in transition.

More fresh faces will be coming through the door at Chelsea in the coming days, most likely starting with Leicester's Wesley Fofana now that a fee has allegedly been verbally agreed.

However, Tuchel is eager to see an improvement from his current crop, with Raheem Sterling providing his first two goals in a Chelsea shirt and goalkeeper Edouard Mendy making amends against Leeds United in the previous game.

In the short term, Chelsea needs to ensure that five points with leaders Arsenal don't go wide, although Tuchel wants his players to focus on one game at a time as they seek to reduce errors and be more clinical in the final third.

As far as Southampton are concerned, they were in superb form against Manchester United for the longest time in their encounter at St.Mary's at the weekend.

However, Ralph Hasenhuttl 's team ended up having to pay for wasting many chances as Bruno Fernandes scored the only goal of the game.

Having come back from a 4-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in their opening game with four points from three games, the Austrian coach will be relatively satisfied with his side's response.
